Sociocultural and demographic factors that influence academic performance: The pre-university case of the Universidad Politécnica Estatal del Carchi

چکیده

The pre-university course established at the Universidad Politécnica Estatal del Carchi (UPEC) after disappearance of Sistema Nacional de Nivelación y Admisión (National Equalization and Admissions System, known by its Spanish acronym as SNNA) posed new challenges for organizational academic structure this university. To start with, challenge began with adaptation a curricular according to educational needs nine undergraduate degrees offered It was followed implementation program, finally evaluation. present research designed carried out part latter goal. Its main objective determine sociocultural demographic factors that influence performance students in course. For purposes investigation, from methodological perspective, associated number subjects passed student. Using multivariate dependency techniques, logistic regression performed, which determined degree incidence demographics on success. After applying model, results indicated case do not success, while variables such level student’s parents, grade university entrance exams work status are significant when it comes establishing cause effect relationship study.
